The vast majority of transactions on Quibly go smoothly. But like any marketplace, it helps to know what to look out for. Most scams follow a familiar pattern and they're easy to spot once you know the signs.
The most common tactics
- Requests to pay outside Quibly: this is a very common scam tactic. If someone asks you to pay by bank transfer, cash or any other method, decline immediately. All payments must go through Stripe, Quibly's secure payment system
- Too-good-to-be-true prices: a brand new smartphone for £50 is a listing worth being cautious about. If the price seems too low, trust your instincts
- Requests for personal information: Quibly will never ask for your bank details, password or ID through a message. Neither should any seller or buyer
- Pressure to act fast: urgency is a tactic. Genuine sellers are happy for you to take your time (adhering to Quibly policy timings)
- Unsolicited links: be wary of any link sent to you through Quibly messages, especially ones asking you to log in or verify payment elsewhere. These may be phishing attempts
- Fake payment confirmations: a seller claiming payment has been made, or a buyer sending a screenshot as 'proof', doesn't mean money has arrived. Always check your own Quibly account for confirmation
- Requests to move off platform: if someone suggests continuing communications on messaging platforms, email or any other channel to 'make things easier', treat it as a red flag. Legitimate transactions don't need to leave Quibly
The simple rule
Keep everything on Quibly: messages, payment and communication. If a transaction stays on the platform, you're covered by buyer and seller protection as all payments are processed through Stripe, Quibly’s secure payment provider. The moment it moves off platform, that protection disappears.
If something doesn't feel right
Trust your instincts. You can report any listing or user and our team will review it. If you've already sent money outside of Quibly, contact your bank as soon as possible.
The bottom line
Quibly is a safe place to buy and sell. Only pay through Quibly’s payment system, be cautious of anything that feels rushed or too good to be true, and report anything suspicious. Our team is here if you need us.
